Visiting the Venice of the North
country #34
Amsterdam is one of the most popular tourist destinations in all of Europe. The city is well-known for its past, the elaborate canal system and the architecture of their iconic, narrow houses.
Getting around Amsterdam is pretty easy. It has efficient public transportation and offers travelers bicycles, metrts, buses, ferries and trains to help you get around the city.
But I prefer to walk.
The first thing I noticed that the most locals use bicycles. There is a big bike traffic.
What to do and eat:
Jordaan neighborhood - known for its beautiful houses, nice restaurants and original shops. When in Amsterdam, it is a must to stroll through the little streets and canals.
Museums- you shouldn't miss out the following 3 museums. Rijksmuseum, Anne Frank's Hause and Van Gogh Museum.
The famous Red Light district-home to one of the oldest professions in the world.
Vondelpark
When you're here, try Stroopwafel, Dutch pancakes, fries and raw herings. I recommend FEBO vending machines. It is a chain of Dutch walk-up fast food restaurants of the automat type founded in 1941.
From Amsterdam I continued travelling to Germany by taking a train from Amsterdam Zuid to Mönchengladbach. The ticket costs about 35 EUR and you need to change trains in Venlo. Trains to Venlo are leaving every 60 minutes.
I really enjoyed my time in the Netherlands and I would like to come to this charming city once again.
