OSLO

country #42

Norway was on my bucket list for a long time. After reopening its borders for the EU citizens I booked a flight to Oslo and spent there 2 nights.

Oslo is situated at the top of Oslofjord, enclosed by forests and mountains. It is the most populous city of Norway.

On day 1 after my arrival at Oslo stasjon I visited Karl Johans Gate - the main street of the city filled with restaurant, cafés and boutiques, took a stroll along Aker Brygge - seafront district, I continued going past Rådhuset towards the Akershus festning - fortress is a great place to discover Oslo's history and enjoy a summer day. Sitting there on the bench I was observing the view of the promenade. The day was crowned by tasting pølse i lompe - hot dog served in a potato roll - delicious.

There is lots of parks in Oslo. I went to Vigeland sculpture park in the morning on day 2. Oslo is quite small city. Everything can be reached by walk. The next stop after returning from the park was Det kongelige slott - The Royal Palace built in the first half of 19. century. By buying Oslo pass you have free entrance to many museums such as Oslo's Historical Museum, Holmenkollen Ski Museum, Munch,..

The biggest impression on me made Operahuset. Built in 2008 it became the first operahouse that enables the visitors to walk on its roof. It was designed to resemble a glacier.

Norway has become my favourite country so far, the only flaw are its prices. Due to high taxes and standard of living is Norway very expensive.  I'd love to come back to see other parts and cities such as Tromsø, Bergen or Ålesund. Nature in Norway is stunning. People there are very friendly and helpful.
