Qatar - My first encounter with the Middle East

I was having a layover in Doha and because the time between my connecting flight was 12 hours I decided to visit the capital of this oil-rich nation.

The best way how to get from the Hamad Int. Airport to the city centre is to take the metro. The Standard Day Pass costs only 6 QAR ( 1.65 USD).

I arrived at Souq Waqif. That is a marketplace where traditional garments, spices, handicrafts, and souvenirs are sold. This vibrant complex is without doubt one of the most atmospheric places to explore in Doha. Dozens of restaurants and Shisha lounges are also located here. Because I was starving, I ordered a shawarma at one of these restaurants. This meal was one of the best I have ever eaten in my entire life! I washed it down with a cup of mint tea and enjoyed the superb atmosphere. I found the price of my dinner to be quite cheap. I paid 19 QAR ( 5.20 USD).

Next stop - I took a stroll around the Doha's Waterfront Promenade, stretching in a half-moon shape around Doha Bay from the Sheraton Hotel to the Museum of Islamic Art, offering spectacular views of Doha.

To refuel energy for my connecting flight to Munich I relaxed at Al Bidda Park. That was my final place here.

I fell in love with Qatar and arabic culture and I want to come back definitely.
